Why Minnesota?

The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are a major center of the health care industry in the United States. The University of Minnesota is one of the foremost biomedical research and tertiary care delivery institutions in the United States, particularly in the fields of cardiac surgery, bone marrow transplants, and stem cell research. Minnesota also is home to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. Managed care was pioneered in Minnesota in the 1950s, and healthcare in the state remains in the forefront of cost control and evidence-based medicine.  Medtronic is the largest of a plethora of biomedical research, design, and manufacturing companies that are headquartered in the state. Major insurers like HealthPartners and Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America are also headquartered here. The state of Minnesota boasts one of the highest standards of living in the United States.

The vibrant Minneapolis/St. Paul area is the intellectual, entertainment, and cultural center of the upper Midwest. The scenery of this attractive metropolis includes contemporary skylines, historic architecture, and greenways of parks, lakes and the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers.

Information on the state’s history and economy is available on the state's website.
